A Gentle New Year Home Reset

Clearing Christmas, creating space, and welcoming the year ahead

There’s something about the days right after Christmas that feels especially tender.

The house grows quieter. The lights come down. The calendar turns a page. And suddenly, there’s this gentle invitation to pause before rushing into what’s next.

This year, I felt a deep pull to reset our home slowly and intentionally. Not in a dramatic, overhaul-everything way, but in a way that honors the life we’re actually living right now. One with a baby on the floor, plants in every corner, and a home that holds so many memories from the past year.

In this video, I’m sharing our New Year home reset: taking down Christmas decor, refreshing our main living spaces, decluttering closets, and caring for the little things that make our home feel alive again.

Letting Christmas Gently Fade

Taking down Christmas decor always brings mixed emotions for me. This season felt especially meaningful. It was cozy, slow, and full of time spent at home. Packing it away wasn’t about rushing past it; it was about honoring it, then allowing space for something new.

As I wrapped ornaments and folded away the garlands, I tried to do so mindfully. Storing things with care feels like an act of gratitude. A quiet thank you to the season we just lived.

Resetting Our Living Spaces

Once the decor came down, the house felt lighter almost instantly. I focused on resetting the living room and dining area: spaces we use every single day. A quick refresh here makes the biggest difference:

  • Clearing surfaces

  • Putting everyday items back where they belong

  • Creating open space instead of filling every corner

I’m learning that a calm home doesn’t come from perfection. It comes from intention. From choosing what stays visible and what gets tucked away.

Decluttering the Spaces We Forget About

Some of the most satisfying resets happen in the least glamorous places.

This time, I tackled our coat closet and linen closet, areas that quietly collect clutter over time. Jackets we no longer reach for. Towels that need folding again. Items that simply need a better home.

Decluttering these spaces felt grounding. Almost like caring for the bones of the house. No one else sees them, but we feel the difference.

Caring for Our Indoor Plants

Watering and wiping down our plants was one of my favorite parts of this reset.

Plants respond to attention. They soften a space and remind me to slow down. Cleaning their leaves and giving them fresh water felt symbolic—starting the year by caring for something living, something growing. It’s a small ritual, but one I want to carry with me into the months ahead.

A Reset, Not a Reinvention

This home reset wasn’t about becoming someone new. It was about supporting the version of myself I already am: moving through motherhood, learning to live slower, and choosing presence over perfection.

If you’re feeling the urge to reset this season, I hope this reminds you that it doesn’t have to be all at once. One drawer. One plant. One quiet afternoon is more than enough.

I hope it brings you a sense of calm, inspiration, or simply some cozy company while you move through your own reset.

Here’s to starting the year gently 🤍
